Just What Is A CoffeeHouse?

The term "CoffeeHouse" isn't something Starbucks invented!

The idea of a live concert venue called a "CoffeeHouse" refers back to the 1950's Beatnick Era, when small urban cafes became youth culture music and poetry venues for the likes of Bob Dylan, Peter Paul & Mary, Joan Baez, the Everly Brothers and Pete Seeger.

The George, Washington version of the CoffeeHouse, which began in 2004, has become a popular monthly concert series that typically runs from October through April.  As the old song goes, "people come from miles around..." - that is, our audience comes from Yakima, Ellensburg, Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Quincy, Ephrata, Royal City and occasionally even from Seattle and Spokane!

Hosted by (and at) the George Community Hall, the George CoffeeHouse features great live acoustic music by bands from all around the Pacific Northwest.  Live Bluegrass, Country, Western Swing, Folk, Cowboy, Vintage Rock & Roll, R&B, Americana and Roots music all find a home here.  Enjoyed by young and old alike in an inviting, family-friendly atmosphere, the CoffeeHouse in George makes an awesome cheap date, girls night out, or an inexpensive family fun night!  Wear your dancing shoes, and we'll make sure you have room to bust a move!

The CoffeeHouse concerts happen monthly from October through April.  Admission is just $5 per person.  Kids age 12 and under get in for free but must be accompanied by an adult.  Fresh-baked refreshments (coffee too, because...well, we're a CoffeeHouse) are served at half-time by the George, WA Georgettes.  Bands are paid with a hat-pass.  Suggested donation for this is $10 to $12 per person.  Concert start-time is 7 pm (unless otherwise noted).  Doors open at 6:30 pm for best seating.

Home-Grown Music!

Music Jams

Our FIRST FRIDAY JAM, happening (oddly enough) on the First Friday of every month, has become the gathering place for musicians and vocalists to play in community, and for audiences to practice music appreciation!

It's home-grown music at its funnest!

Our THIRD FRIDAY BEGINNERS' JAM, is for less-experienced musicians who want to learn to play nicely with others!

Bring your instrument, a music stand if you have one, lyrics with chords of whatever songs you want the group to learn,

and a smile!

We begin at 7 pm, every Third Friday.   More experienced musicians are invited as well; be prepared to help someone learn something new with their instrument or voice.  An audience is always welcome at this jam, too!
